Boxley Street

Project Description

Boxley Street was another part of the Peabody Trust “Fresh Ideas for Social Housing” competition and is built opposite the Evelyn Road project. It consists of two linked blocks, each of two flats. The same problems existed, recognising design aspirations within a limited budget, and this was again achieved with the cooperation of all the team.

The buildings are covered in silver foil with a gold and silver translucent plastic rainscreen but it is internally that the fresh ideas are most evident. There is a different priority of space with small bedrooms and living room but a large kitchen/diner and hall space, with the hall space becoming a living area in its own right, rather than just a route to elsewhere.
