No marketing department at the beginning and no claims department at the end. Our business strategy is to work with a small number of repeat clients and this gives the company a clear client focusses and a non-adversarial partnering approach.
More than 25 years’ experience underpins our reliable and detailed approach to every project. Our proficient team provides efficient project management while adding value at every stage of the process from design to completion.


Terry Barlow DipSurv MCIOB MRICS
MD – Commercial Director

Terry started work as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor in 1987 for Ridge & Partners, a firm of Chartered Surveyors in Oxford. He worked there for 9 years, gaining a Diploma in Quantity Surveying from The College of Estate Management, Reading University. After progressing from Trainee to Assistant & through to Project Quantity Surveyor, he moved to Scion Technical Services, spending five years there before moving to Linbrook Services where he spent the next 12 years. During this time, he set up & ran the Minor Works Department & attained membership of the Chartered Institute of Building in 2003.

Terry joined Sandwood as Senior Quantity Surveyor in 2013, and is now Commercial Director, looking after the company’s commercial interests and helping to plan the future development of the company. Terry is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor.

Paul Stack
Construction Director

Paul has over 30 years’ experience in the construction industry. A qualified plaster with a degree in Construction Management. Joining a medium-sized main contractor as a site manager in 2000 he was promoted to contracts manager within a few years and in 2008 was made head of construction in the Special Works Division. In this department, Paul gained great experience overseeing works in all sectors, refurbishment, new build and extending education, health and residential.
In 2012 Paul was asked to join the residential division taking full responsibility for all aspects of construction overseeing a large team of contracts managers and site managers while acting as contract manager on his own schemes. Paul also deals with pre-construction, site logistics, delivery plans, programming, CPH&SP & all H&S for the project. As Construction Director at Sandwood, he is the Head of Construction managing the Construction Team to provide a quality product with efficiency, safety and professionalism; ensuring the highest levels of customer satisfaction.

Frank Lennon ICIOB
Contracts Manager

Frank has been in the construction business since leaving school and has progressed from apprentice carpenter to senior construction manager at Faircloughs/AMEC and YJL Construction Ltd. He has overseen the construction of a number of high profile projects, such as the new Canterbury Combined Court Centre, the Carlton Plaza hotel, Soffitel Hotel and the residential Pulse development.
Frank joined Sandwood in 2005 and is our Contracts Manager.

Frank’s technical qualifications are:
Construction Site Managers Safety Certificate (accredited by CITB), CSCS (Contracts Manager level), Appointed Persons for Cranage Certificate (accredited by CITB), British Red Cross First Aid Certificate, Managing Safely Certificate (accredited by IOSH), Scaffold Inspection Certificate – basic and advanced (accredited by CITB) and City & Guilds Craft – Carpentry & City & Guilds Advanced Craft – Carpentry.

Richard Garland BSc(ECON) ACMA MCIOB
Company Accountant

After gaining an economics degree at Leicester University, Richard obtained an ACMA Accounting Qualification while working for the Ford Motor Company. After working for Ford in a number of marketing and finance positions, he moved to ICL (International Computers Ltd) at their head office in Putney, working in the Corporate Finance and Treasury Departments. His involvement in the construction industry started in the early 1980s while still at ICL, and has continued since then. Richard was Managing Director of Sandwood from its inception until his partial retirement in 2018.

At Sandwood Richard is the Company Accountant and is responsible for IT, Finance and Administration as well as the Original Features subsidiary. Richard has a long-standing interest in sustainability from the company’s “Green House” project over 20 years ago to the UK’s first FSC certified new building and on to the completion of a number of successful PassivHaus projects.
